Meal Ideas: Pupusas

Pupusas by Kittee Berns / Photography by Amy Gedgaudas

You can findĀ  the recipe for these over in our community recipe hub.

Take a golf ball sized piece of masa.

Insert your thumb and index finger...

and carefully form a pinch pot.

Fill with beans,

and top with cheese (if you want).

Grab a little more masa and flatten slightly.

Carefully begin pinching the two layers of dough together,

until the beans are

fully encased

between the two layers of dough.

Flatten slightly,

and even a little more.

Place the pupusa on a piece of parchment,

and flatten until...

the pupusa is about 1/3 inch thick.

Transfer each pupusa into a lightly oiled pan, and grill over medium/medium high heat until cooked through on both sides. Serve with salad, slaw or slathered in guacamole. I love them piping hot when the cheese is completely melted and gooey.
