Call me a square, but I just discovered that Trader Joe’s sells gluten free pasta. Relatively cheap gluten free pasta. Yep, it’s right next to their other pastas.
And you know what? It’s good!
This whole time I’ve been gluten free, I’ve been wondering why there isn’t a decent xgfx pasta that won’t empty my pocketbook (that is, if I had a pocketbook– I like to stuff my moolah into one of these). Well, this is it… for under two bucks you can pick up enough pasta to feed a ravenous family of four, and it tastes just like regular gluten filled pasta. I’ve only seen it in two types: penne and spirals, but for being almost half the price of other amazing brown rice pasta brands, I’m not gonna be picky.
Hooray for economical pasta choices!

Yum! I’m not gluten free but brown rice pasta is my favourite.
Looks big time yummy! Recipe please!! (Am I missing something? I checked your recipes and didn’t see this one….) Thanks much!!!!
I second that!! This looks so tasty, mmmmmm.
Hi Guys! It’s soooo easy! I just made the pasta according to package directions, then rinsed with cold water, just briefly. Then I coated the pasta liberally with nutritional yeast and olive oil, and salted to taste. And, of course, topped it with a lil black pepper. It’s my kids’ favorite dish!
I’ve heard rumors that the TJ’s brown rice pasta is made by Tinkyada. After trying it, do you think this might be true? I love Tinky spirals so much (I far prefer them to my memories of wheat pasta) and I would be over the moon if I could have Tinky pasta love at cheap TJs prices! I’ll have to pick some up next time I make one of my rare forays to Trader Joe’s.
ooooh, yep, I believe it.
At first I was skeptical, but I’d say it’s just as good. I can’t figure out why the TJ”s cooking time is less than tinkyada’s.. but I did notice that TJ’s brand didn’t include rice bran. Hmmmm…. I am so going to look into this! That would be awesome… maybe they’ll have more varieties soon?!?
That’s good to hear! Next time I’m in the US, I’ll have to pick some up. I typically don’t like the rice pastas, but I do like the corn pasta usually. I don’t like that it’s triple the price, though.
completely agree w/ you! price & quality = greatness! been through a bunch of diff. brands and i really like trader joe’s version of gluten & wheat free pasta. if you make it al dente, it comes out perfect too (i know sometimes gluten free pasta comes out mushy). phew!
I totally agree….the TJoes rice pasta is fantastic! For the worlds easiest mac and cheese: put Daiya shredded vegan cheese (soy free) on hot TJ rice pasta spirals and stir. That is it..Delicious.
Everytime I make this rice pasta, people love it! Even my dog loves it and she is a very very picky eater :)
yeah! this stuff rules! and they have spaghetti, toooo! omnomnoodles
spaghetti!!?? what…. yay!
yeah! tell yr store to bring it in!
OMG how did you not know about this? i frickin LIVE on this stuff. well, i spend most nights trying to think of other, more virtuous things to make (veggie stew from the CSA box!) and then often end up with a big bowl o’ pasta (topped with the veggies from the CSA box. not without virtue.)
